Mum's Musings September 2008

Today my child hopped, skipped, jumped, kissed and rolled around in the puddles in our park. After a while, I decided to dry her off. I stripped her down but before I could get any clothes on her, she ran off and did all of the above in the buff. All the other kids laughed at her nudity and you could see the sneers on some parents' faces.

A neighbour said to me - "Wow that's a wild one you've got there Karen!"

And you know what, that's her. Cahaya Rain the wild one. Call her anything you like, my child REALLY knows how to have fun! She embraces life to the full, as only a child can, oblivious to judgement and ridicule. Her nudity only frees her further and I'd bet any money that every child that laughed secretly wished he/she could do the same!

I allow my child to get dirty and wet because my philosophy is that whatever can be washed off can't hurt her. But constant berating about 'being dirty' can. She will only be this age once and as time passes and self consciousness sets in, she'll never be able to do this again.

So judge my child and I all you like. I love her for what she is, for the way she takes charge, for the way she finds the biggest fun in the smallest puddle.

My wish for my child is that she will ALWAYS remain this way.
